Previous Experience

Previous experience working within a manufacturing or engineering environment is preferred, ideally within metal processing, casting, finishing, or aerospace manufacturing.

No formal qualifications are required for this role, however, if you have practical skills, such as DIY, and are dextrous then they will prove very useful for this role.

Role Duties

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, those below

  • Upgrade and finishing of aerospace castings in Ferrous and Non-Ferrous alloys in accordance with engineering drawings, work instructions, and quality procedures
  • Removal of castings from Replicast casting boxes where required
  • Removal of ceramic mould material using appropriate methods including high-pressure and low-pressure water jetting and manual removal
  • Load and unload abrasive grit blasting / shot blasting cabinets as required for surface preparation. Removal of metal running, feeding and gating systems using hand tools including grinders, burrs and abrasive belts
  • Use of large cut-off saws for removal of excess material where required
  • Prepare castings for the welding process based upon results from NDT and CMM investigations
  • Carry out weld mapping activities where required to support weld repair operations.
  • Dress castings back to engineering drawing tolerance and profile.
  • Record and maintain dimensional and finishing results in accordance with quality documentation and route cards.
  • Use precision measurement equipment including verniers, callipers, micrometres, depth gauges, and other approved inspection tools.
  • Work to tight tolerances and follow required quality procedures and work instructions at all times
  • Handle and move castings safely using overhead cranes in accordance with lifting procedures.
  • Operate forklift trucks where licensed
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working area
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with health, safety and environmental procedures
  • Support production requirements across both Ferrous and Non-Ferrous finishing operations
  • Work flexibly across finishing processes to support multi-skilled team operations
  • Ensure full traceability of components and documentation throughout finishing operations.
  • Responsibilities are not limited to the above and may evolve to meet operational requirements.
